Japanese Kakejiku (掛軸) (Hanging Scroll) | Who Are kakejiku art & DAS
Background
The Neo Japonism Kakejiku project is hosted by Gifu Art Forum, a forum that preserves and passes on to the next generation various art and culture in Japan's Gifu prefecture. Gifu is a major region where kakejiku (hanging scroll) is made, thanks to the abundant high-quality water, artists, and other materials such as washi paper that are crucial for kakejiku. Under this project, kakejiku art and DAS, a designers association to which many internationally renowned artists belong, collaborates and makes 33 innovative pieces of kaekjiku art with a modern twist. Because of the progressive design of these kakejiku art, they can be put in a room that does not look necessarily Japanese.
