History of Wood in Kochi
Kochi Prefecture was used to be called Tosa, and the wood from the area was called “Tosa wood” in the Edo period (1603-1868). Tosa wood gained enormous popularity all over the country as a result of receiving "Japan's best" from Taiko (Imperial adviser) Hideyoshi at the time of building of Osaka Castle.
