  • This statue is a replica of the original statue that is designated as a national treasure. The original is in a Kyoto temple that was built following a request made by Emperor Go-Shirakawa whose reign spanned the years from 1155 through 1158
  • Karura-o is a deity who protects Thousand-armed Guanyin and Gautama Buddha. He is based on Garuda, a race of sacred birds in Hindu mythology, who are said to feed on the Naga which symbolize evil. This statue is particularly impressive because of his airy gestures which represent his movement to the tune of the flute he plays

    • Use brushes to remove dust from the statues. Cloths etc. should not be used because the fiber can damage the smaller parts of the statues
    • Do not wipe the statue with damp cloth etc. because water-soluble paint may be used
    • Direct sunlight or heat should be avoided
